The Anglican Diocese of Islands and Inlets is seeking a part-time (22 hrs/week) Receptionist & Administrative Assistant to support the office, located near Fairfield in downtown Victoria. This is a one-year term position with possibility of extension. The Receptionist & Administrative Assistant will work in the office Monday to Thursday from 9am to 3pm. Benefits listed below additionally include a flexible annual work schedule with opportunity to take extended unpaid leave for the entire months of July and August, as well as during the Christmas season. 

This role will provide support to several departments, including the bishop’s office, communications, projects and events, finance, and the archives. The assistant will fill a broad and varied spectrum of administrative tasks, including but not limited to welcoming office visitors, responding to public requests for information via phone and email, file management (electronic and hardcopy), handling mail, scheduling, data entry, proofreading and formatting documents, ordering supplies and liaising with vendors, and basic office housekeeping/organizing. The assistant will also help coordinate onsite and offsite requirements for meetings and events, and support special projects as required. The assistant will post and share events to the website, help manage 46 parish’s Microsoft365 accounts (updates, security alerts, etc.), and support parish-level administrative staff.

The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written English communications skills, solid listening and organizing skills, enthusiasm for change and adaptation, with an ability to prioritize work embracing constant interruptions. The assistant will also have values compatible with the diocesan Vision and a cheerful, calm, hospitable demeanor. We are looking for an individual who has a minimum of three years experience in administrative work, and proficiency with office equipment (photocopier, postage meter, phone system, etc.). Advanced computer literacy is a necessity, and proficiency with Microsoft 365 (especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and Forms) is expected.

The following skills or experience are not required, but would be an asset:

  • IT troubleshooting acumen
  • knowledge of the Anglican Church of Canada culture and community
  • data management (especially experience with Excel)
  • writing or proofreading

Candidates must be able to provide a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector search, and will be required to take Safe Church training (provided), and abide by the diocesan policies including signing a confidentiality agreement. Salary: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
