Bio for The Ven Lon Towstego April 4, 2015Lon is a priest in the Diocese of BC and currently the Rector of the Parish of St. Peter and St. Paul in Esquimalt, BC. ( Please see www.stpeterandpaul.ca for more parish information). Lon is a graduate of the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and has two degrees, a Master of Theology and a Bachelor of Theology.Lon was born and raised in Saskatoon, moved to BC in 1986. His first career was in the retail motorcycle industry where he held most positions from mechanic to store owner and manager at various times. This was a case of hobby become job.In his vocational calling to ordained ministry Lon trained in an Intercultural Setting by being in charge of a rural parish, St. Josephs, Punta Gorda in Belize. He then had an 18 month Curacy at St. Paul’s, Nanaimo followed by five years as a Chaplain in the BC Correctional System serving at both Vancouver Island Correctional Center and at Nanaimo Correctional Center. He was part of the founding staff for the Therapeutic Treatment Center, a Recovery Centre within the jail system to help men start on a path of recovery while they are incarcerated rather than just waiting for release. In April of 2011 he was appointed as rector of a newly re-formed parish, St. Peter and St. Paul. He assists weekly at Rainbow Kitchen with a prayer ministry and in supporting clients, leadership and volunteers. He is chair of the Diocesan Partners in Mission Ministry Team, sits on the Diocesan Finance Committee and on Diocesan Council. He was involved with the Truth and Reconciliation Hearings in Victoria last year and is a member of Aboriginal Neighbors. In April 2014 Lon was appointed as an Archdeacon of the Diocese of BC with particular responsibility to the Selkirk Region.Lon sees his primary role as one of prayerful support and action in the parish and community around us in compassionate and inclusive ways.Thank-you.
